Strong Roots

February 28, 2024

As I look back on high school, those days of the past,
What are mem’ries, the shadows they cast?
I remember with fondness our town, rather small,
Where the neighbors were friendly, and we knew them all.

Most of my classmates I’d known since first grade.
Now decades have passed, many memories fade,
I remember the people, the warmth of the smiles,
They’ll always be with me, no matter the miles.

I went to college, my folks moved away,
But those growing up mem’ries were with me to stay.
The teachers, the coaches, the friends that I made,
Still cast a shadow that never will fade.

Warm smiles and a howdy from folks wearin’ boots,
I’m grateful my small town provided strong roots.
