Surround me with simple and humble,
And spare me the ones full of pride.
I pray that I’m willing and able
To value what’s really inside.
It’s not fortune or fame that should measure,
Determine what someone is worth.
God gives all His children a treasure,
He puts it inside us at birth.
Lord help me serve those who need comfort.
I can’t reach the ones boastful and proud,
Who refuse to acknowledge their hurt,
Stay draped in an arrogant shroud.
There’s a void that’s inside every soul,
That cannot be covered with pride,
That only the Lord can make whole.
It’s futile to struggle and hide.
So pertinent! Bless you, John!I thank the Lord for you and the beautiful gift He has given you to write uplifting, inspiring and prayerfully, thought-provoking verse.
