Pain in the Knee

September 29, 2023

I’m not sure how it works when my knee is in pain.
Can it get in my head and then impact my brain?
It’s my knee that is hurting it’s not in my head.
Can a pain in my knee affect writing instead?

Can pain in my joint make a mess of my mind,
Make words disappear so they’re harder to find?
I’m not sure how it works but my writing’s slowed down.
Words can escape me, a verb, or a noun.

Perhaps over time when the pain can subside,
I’ll get back in the saddle and once again ride.
I’ll get back to writing a rhyme every day,
My mind once again will have something to say.

I’m sure I’ll recover. I’m doing my best.
For now, I’ll just sit, let my knee have a rest.

Sorry to read you’re having these problems with your knee, John. You may feel that it’s impacting your writing, but this is certainly a witty little poem! Hope you’ll be feeling much better soon.

  2. Donna Kersey says:

Understand and empathize with your situation, John!
Just realized that “any aching body part name” could be inserted
where knee is in place in the poem originally. That makes it
a universal poem of aching expression! Hope you heal soon and
can write a poem about the wonder of pain relief!
