Before the Dawn

Before the Dawn

There’s not yet early morning light
In darkness still before the dawn
Soon morning sun will end the night
Awake a bird, a squirrel, a fawn

A winter’s eve comes to an end
The sound of silence fills the air
Another day will soon begin
What it will bring I’m unaware

The coffee’s hot inside my cup
The thoughts well up inside my mind
Upon my lap a loving pup
My words spill out to form the lines

A quiet time to read and pray
Pen soothing rhyme to start my day
