It’s hard to let go of the ones we hold dear.
It’s easy to grip them with all of our might.
If we hold them more loosely, not grip them in fear,
We’ll find joy, not regret as we see them take flight.
Whether parent or child or a friend that we know,
If we do for another the things they could do,
We can overprotect and not help them to grow,
Not help them to learn how to try something new.
Although it is difficult loosening our grip,
But it’s better than choosing to not love at all.
Although we may struggle, occasionally trip,
The Lord picks up when we stumble and fall.
Lord help us know balance, not helping too much,
Not creating dependence on us as a crutch.
