An Old Man and His Blanket

March 23, 2022

He sat in his rocker and jotted down words,
A blanket to cover him, ward off the cold.
He wrote of his life and the things he had heard.
His years were approaching what some would call old.

He penned all the memories down through the years,
Some mem’ries of childhood when he was a boy,
Some not so happy, his words came with tears,
Others quite pleasant he shared with great joy.

He was blessed on his journey, he walked with the Lord.
He was able to share it, God gave him a wife.
Together in harmony each played a chord,
God answered his prayers with the love of his life.

Though never quite certain why he loved to write
Or where words would take him or where they might go,
As he began writing in dawn’s early light,
That time before sunrise when colors would glow.

The old man with his blanket still rocks, spinning rhyme.
He writes about life as he walks back through time.
