Childhood Friends

February 26, 2022

The friends I knew at early age
Helped write my life, they’re on each page.
They each became a part of me,
We’re intertwined, will always be.

Sometimes we fought, but mostly played.
The lessons learned began first grade.
Throughout the years our friendships grew.
Those ties still last that we once knew.

The plays we ran while on the field
Taught us to stand, and not to yield,
Together learned to fight and win,
Helped us transition, boys to men.

I’m grateful for the girls I met.
I learned respect, I’ve no regrets.
They formed in me a special place
For tenderness, a warm embrace.

Those memories formed as a child,
They’re part of me, still bring a smile.
