A Respite of Silence

April 3, 2024

So many competing for time to be heard,
Am I able to listen while reading God’s Word,
And hear what He said? Can I read and discern?
Can I focus and listen to grow and to learn?

When distractions surround me, the noise fills the air,
A moment of silence will hold off despair.
I’ve grown fond of the solace that quiet provides,
A brief respite of silence, not somewhere to hide.

I now love to listen to thoughts without sounds,
Inside me the stirrings that thrive and abound.
As a pebble makes ripples when touching a pond,
Perhaps I’ll catch glimpses of glory beyond.

Lord help me in silence to listen and hear
Your Spirit inside me so precious and dear.
