As I Grow Old

November 12, 2023

A bit of humor – sad but true …

I walk into another room then ask, “Why am I here?”
I stop a while to look around, I know it must be near.
Retrace my steps to find again the place from whence I came.
It’s only there once more I know; an oft’ repeated game.

The mind plays tricks I think to force my feet a few more steps.
If that’s the case I wish my mind was not quite so adept.
It must be true ‘cause through the night I’m still forced to my feet.
At least go once or twice a night, the toilet I must meet.

It also seems as time goes by more names just disappear.
It seems I’ve lost at least a few, and more each passing year.
Forgive me if the stories told perhaps you’ve heard before.
I’m unaware when I repeat, I pray you’re blessed once more.

The day may come, I don’t know when, that I no longer care,
Because by then my mind will fade and I’ll be unaware.
