I pray for compassion, the will to discern,
To listen to others and hear their concerns.
At times it’s not answers, advice, even words,
But rather to listen, reflect what I’ve heard.
Lord give me the wisdom to know when to hush,
Respect for the silence, show patience, not rush.
To take time to listen, to hear with my heart,
Can show more compassion than words can impart.
Lord grant me the empathy I need today
To focus on hearing what others may say.
Hear not just the words, but the feelings they share.
Then help me to know how to show that I care.
I’ve known Your compassion. Your love I’ve embraced.
Help me show others Your love, and Your grace.
