I’ve seen some changes in my day,
A swing in mood along the way.
The yesterdays we had before,
Sometimes I long for them once more.
Those simple days when doors weren’t locked.
We welcomed friends, come in don’t knock.
The change at first seemed strange, benign.
Just symbols etched on walls or signs.
“Free love, free sex” or “God is dead,”
“Make love, not war,” is how they read.
If God is dead there is no wrong,
Get high on drugs, come sing our song.
Then others came and joined them too.
So many now, it must be true.
To question God became the norm,
It seemed to take our youth by storm.
Do as we please, it is our right,
The darkness came to dim the light.
The lust and power, pride and greed
Became an overwhelming need.
And now with arrogance and pride,
Insisting that we take their side,
They push for change throughout the land,
Remove the law, there’s nothing banned.
The change I’ve seen can make me sad.
I see it all, the good, the bad.
But I have faith in God above,
The source of truth, and light, and love.
We each must choose before we die
If God is real or just a lie.
I’ve made my choice, I know He’s real,
Know for yourself is my appeal.
I still have hope, each morning pray,
“Lord shine your light through me this day.”
This is so true! Just where we are today. Thank you for putting into words how so many of us actually feel!
