Listening

In this time of technology, rushing around,
Bombarded with noises, surrounded by sound,
We get lost in the hustle and bustle each day,
And forget how to listen to what others say.

To live in the moment is not hard to do,
Yet we let our minds wander, thoughts out of the blue,
Mental distractions to pull us away,
To keep us from hearing what you have to say.

I pray that I’m able to listen and hear,
Sharing my time with a smile or a tear.
I pray that I focus and hear with my heart,
Give all my attention and not just a part.

I pray that I practice, perfect, and refine
The talent of listening when others opine.
