What a joy to have my poem, Angel’s Wings, in the December issue of Starlight Magazine, a Christian magazine for children ages 5-10.
StarLight considers it a pleasure and privilege to share their joy for shining God’s truth through children’s literature. They endeavor to introduce, enhance and encourage all young people through their quarterly magazine and monthly printables bonus.

My wife knows pain she’s persevered.
I’ve tried to help but failed, I fear.
So many doctors, meds, and drives,
They too have failed to help her thrive.
I guess some people must endure.
Some ailments still don’t have a cure.
How do folks learn to live with pain?
It’s something that I can’t explain.
It’s strength that’s buried deep inside.
It’s where our faith in God resides.
God promises His love and grace,
In Him we find a resting place.
I pray your pain won’t last too long,
And through it all you’ll hear God’s song.

Perhaps it’s more than deep in thought,
More prone to pensive than I ought,
It seems that at this time of year
Old memories draw close and near.
My friends of old from days now past
Left images that linger, last.
I miss those friends, those days of old,
More precious now than stacks of gold.
The love that we can leave behind
To touch another heart and mind
Will linger long beyond our years,
Shared memories, both joy and tears.
I’m blessed by time I spend with friends.
Those memories will never end.

A word, a smile, a warm embrace
A gentle touch upon the face
Conveys a warm and loving heart.
The feeling lasts, won’t soon depart.
Compassion comes from deep inside,
That place where peace and joy abide.
And when it’s shared then it will grow,
By words and deeds that love will show.
I pray when shared that love will spread,
Reach to the heart, not just the head.
May love and light this time of year
Dispel the darkness, hate, and fear.
Compassion comes from God above,
The one, the only source of love.

Perhaps you will gather with family and friends,
Or perhaps at a table of strangers this year.
No matter your state or the place you are in,
I pray you are grateful for what you hold dear.
It’s not about fortune or fame or control,
But learning to love and to share and to give.
By giving to others, you’ll find in your soul
A joy and a peace as you learn how to live.
Thanksgiving the focus is mostly on thanks,
But the giving is also important to do.
It’s often ignored, second place in the ranks.
It’s not about money but sharing time too.
Find time to be thankful and give from your heart,
Find ways to reach out, you have much to impart.

Halloween decorations will fade from the lawns,
Soon bright colored lights will be burning ’til dawn.
But tucked in between don’t forget or ignore
A day of Thanksgiving recalling once more
The bountiful blessings poured down from above.
It’s a time to reach out to share blessings and love.
It’s a time to be thankful and also to give.
By helping another we learn how to live.
Christmas is coming and soon will be here,
But a time to give thanks and reflect on the year
Is a pause that’s much needed to set the right tone,
Be mindful of others so no one’s alone.
Sometimes it’s the pauses in life I love best,
Taking time to be grateful, count ways I am blessed.

I pray that you’ve been truly blessed
With gifts to give and love to share,
Nights filled with peace, good sleep, and rest,
Lay at God’s feet your every care.
The love that flows from God’s profound,
The source of joy, of hope, of peace.
His love is pure, how sweet the sound,
The angels’ praises never cease.
We’ve not been blessed to worship gold,
But learning how to share, to give.
It’s what we give, not what we hold,
That sets us free to truly live.
Don’t give just gold but share yourself.
Don’t keep your talents on the shelf.

Hard work and persistence will always precede
The sweet satisfaction, fulfillment of dreams.
Overcoming the hardships takes will to succeed,
The roadblocks and setbacks are many it seems.
Listen to others, the critical word.
Don’t be discouraged it’s how we must learn.
Although it seems harsh don’t ignore what you’ve heard,
Consider and ponder, absorb, and discern.
Don’t be discouraged, keep working each day,
Making adjustments from people who know,
Learning, improving each step of the way,
Hearing feedback from others will help us to grow.
Ignore the temptation to stop and not try.
One day like an eagle you’ll soar through the sky.

A bit of humor – sad but true …
I walk into another room then ask, “Why am I here?”
I stop a while to look around, I know it must be near.
Retrace my steps to find again the place from whence I came.
It’s only there once more I know; an oft’ repeated game.
The mind plays tricks I think to force my feet a few more steps.
If that’s the case I wish my mind was not quite so adept.
It must be true ‘cause through the night I’m still forced to my feet.
At least go once or twice a night, the toilet I must meet.
It also seems as time goes by more names just disappear.
It seems I’ve lost at least a few, and more each passing year.
Forgive me if the stories told perhaps you’ve heard before.
I’m unaware when I repeat, I pray you’re blessed once more.
The day may come, I don’t know when, that I no longer care,
Because by then my mind will fade and I’ll be unaware.
