Quiet Time Rhymes

February 22, 2024

Why focus on others, the things they do wrong,
When it’s inside me my focus belongs?
I’ll never be perfect, but still, I can strive
To draw closer to Jesus each day I’m alive.

He gave up His life, and He paid for my sin,
Now His Holy Spirit’s abiding within.
Lord help me each moment to follow Your lead,
To daily discern as I pray, and I read.

I’m grateful for grace that’s sufficient for me.
Lord open my eyes that I clearly can see
Your beauty and kindness, the depth of Your love,
That You became man leaving heaven above.

Lord help me to listen and hear what you say,
As I read words of scripture and quietly pray.

February 21, 2024

I don’t have the answers to life’s ups and downs.
Does the clay made of mud that was formed from the ground
Give the potter instructions, a vase or a bowl?
I trust in my God who’s the one in control.

God does as He pleases, He’s fully in charge.
I’m only a speck in the heavens so large.
It’s not up to me, and He need not explain,
The days He brings sunshine or days filled rain.

How can I question, demand to know why,
A love so profound His own Son had to die.
My God is omnipotent, loving, and just.
He’s in control, He’s the One that I trust.

One day I’ll be with Him in heaven above.
I’ll be in His presence, the light of His love.

I can put myself out there and share from my heart,
Or keep my rhymes hidden and never depart.
I don’t have control over where they may land.
Someone may listen, agree, understand,

While others may judge them as simple and trite.
If I’m hampered by fear as I pen words I write,
Concerned about critics and what they might say,
Then the words become blocked as fears get in the way.

Lord help me to write from my heart without fear,
Find places to share with the people who’ll hear.
I pray I pen words that are loving and kind,
Words that touch others in heart, soul, and mind.

Lord help me continue to learn and to grow.
Lord lead me to places that you’d have me go.

February 12, 2024

I’m grateful Lord for this today.
I cannot change my yesterday,
Nor know tomorrow, what it brings.
It’s just today my heart can sing.

What can I give today to last,
When in the future now’s the past?
I’ll reach inside, see what I find.
I’ll leave some heartfelt words behind.

Perhaps someday when they are read,
They’ll touch someone, these words I’ve said,
Perhaps what someone needs to hear.
Embrace God’s love and know He’s near.

I pray the bits of me I leave
Help someone else to trust, believe.

The words that I write I can edit and change,
I am free to adjust them, to move, rearrange.
When I speak there’s no key labeled backspace,
Once spoken it’s done with no chance to erase.

Words spoken in anger I often regret,
Give rise to harsh words with all parties unset.
Why are words spoken so hard to control?
Lord help me speak lovingly words from my soul.

Lord help me touch others through words that I speak,
Build others up, find the courage they seek.
Help me be open, and share from my heart;
Find words of comfort, Your love to impart.

Lord help me show love in the words that I choose;
Help me show love in the tone that I use.

February 10, 2024

Lord cleanse my heart, may it stay pure.
My selfish ways Your love can cure.
Your Spirit’s there inside of me,
To guide me, Lord, and help me see.

I pray that daily I discern
Your voice that I may hear and learn.
So many folks with words to say.
Lord help me clearly know the way,

The pathway through the rough terrain.
Help me with words Your love proclaim.
Help me convey in rhyme and verse
Your love that formed the universe,

Your love that put the stars in place,
Extends to us amazing grace.

To navigate a narrow road,
To enter through a narrow gate,
Don’t travel with a heavy load.
Stay focused for the road’s not straight.

It doesn’t help to rush around.
I’ll miss a turn and lose my way.
Be still and listen for the sound,
“The path is here, don’t go astray.”

The more I read, and pray, and learn,
The more I open up my heart,
The more I’m able to discern
Which path to take, which task to start.

Lord help me hear and know Your voice
Each time that I must make a choice.

February 8, 2024

God gave us emotions, a heart that can feel.
David, the Psalmist wrote down and revealed
Emotions he felt, never hid them away.
He captured them well and we read them today.

He held nothing back as he spoke from his heart,
A man who loved God and it set him apart.
His words were so honest, He spoke to his God.
Expressing emotions he never thought odd.

God never designed us to hold back the tears,
Suppressing emotions, ignoring our fears.
Emotions are healthy, they help us to grow.
Yet often we’re taught that men don’t let them show.

Lord help me to play from my heart every string.
Help me share from inside what I feel as I sing.

Are you calling me God? Are You calling today?
Am I listening Lord to what You have to say?
Help me follow You Lord, as You show me the way.
Help me listen and hear You with all of my heart.

As I’m reading Your Words, are they speaking to me?
I pray that Your Spirit will help me to see.
No longer in bondage, Lord set my soul free.
You made the change Lord; I made a new start.

I’m grateful to listen and write words of rhyme.
I’m grateful each morning You’ve given me time,
Read verses of scripture, Your words are sublime.
Lord help me discern them, Your message impart.

Lord help me find wisdom that comes from Your heart,
A treasure of value that never departs.

I’m just a simple man who writes, God’s message to convey.
He’s calling out, “Come home again,” to all the ones who stray.
It’s up to you to listen, hear Him and to heed.
His love extends to all who hear, not earned by word or deed.

In simple trust we hear His words, accept them, and believe,
Ignore the ones enticing you, the liars who deceive.
His message written long ago is calling out to you.
In simple faith accept His love, His Word’s forever true.

No matter where your path has been, or what you’ve done before,
God’s love is true, it’s up to you, accept it or ignore.
Within your heart accept God’s love, you can be born again.
God’s love will fill your heart and soul, let peace and joy begin.

God’s Son in love has paid the price, allow His love inside.
He’ll wrap you in His loving arms, God’s Spirit will reside.
