Quiet Time Rhymes

I love to get out, ease my mind with a walk,
A leisurely stroll just to listen, not talk.
Hear the sounds of the silence, the whispers of trees
As they sway and converse with the soft gentle breeze,

A bird and an echo, the call of a mate,
A train in the distance arriving with freight.
A carpet of pine straw, a walk through the wood,
The sounds of the silence they do my heart good.

I can pause and reflect on a leisurely stroll,
Looking back through the years, don’t regret growing old.
Some days were a struggle, some patches were rough.
I had faith in the Lord, trusting Him was enough.

In the midst of the silence God whispers to me.
He touches my soul like the wind through a tree.

February 3, 2025

I need my early quiet place
To read, to pray, to seek God’s face,
A time and place to rest my soul,
To let God’s will in me unfold.

Lord may Your word take root in me.
Lord help my heart Your will to see.
Lord help me trust this day to You
In all I say and all I do.

Lord take my hand and lead the way.
Lord grant me wisdom as I pray.
I don’t know what this day will bring
But pray my soul today may sing.

Lord You are love and life and light,
A light that’s true and pure and bright.

December 25, 2024

At this most festive time of year
I pray God’s love drives out all fear.
I pray the stars are shining bright
Declaring God’s eternal light.

I pray we hear the angels sing
As bells on Christmas morning ring,
Declaring Christ was born to save
To live, to die, rise from the grave.

His Spirit lives in hearts today
Reveals God’s love, shows us the way
To live with God forever more
If we walk through the open door.

God sent His son, a babe was born.
We celebrate on Christmas morn.

When I ponder what this Christmas season truly means to me,
In my heart I cherish stories, it’s not just a Christmas tree.
I like the lights and ornaments and all the Christmas songs,
But I know the Christ in Christmas in my heart the whole year long,

The story of the way He came, when God arrived on earth,
A virgin in a manger on the night that she gave birth.
The angels told the shepherds tending sheep out in the field.
They were the first to hear the news, to them it was revealed,

“To you is born a Savior,” angels sang and praised His name.
The shepherds found their way that night and to the manger came,
And then they told the story of the angels and their words.
Mary treasured all these things and pondered what she heard.

The shepherds praised their God that night for all that they had seen,
Their words preserved for us to hear. We now know what they mean.

I pray as we count all our blessings this year
Remembering loved ones, some no longer here,
Our friends and our family, new people we’ve met,
Take time to give thanks for them all don’t forget.

Let your heart fill with joy, hold no grudges, forgive.
Thank God for His blessings each day that you live.
His bountiful love that you’ve known for so long
Will always surround you, in Him you are strong.

As we remember the blessings we’ve known,
Thank God for His love and His grace we have known,
I pray you find joy in abundance this year
As you spend time with others, the ones who are near.

May others see joy that God’s placed in your heart,
Be blessed by the love that God’s Spirit imparts.

Lately lines have seemed to slow,
Exactly why I do not know.
Sometimes words form into a rhyme,
It doesn’t really take much time.

But lately I’ve been focusing
On holidays and what they bring,
As I prepare some rhymes to share,
Those to give thanks, tell God we care.

I’m looking through Thanksgiving scenes,
Like pictures in the magazines,
With friends and family gathered near
Remembering and sharing cheer.

I’ll also have a Christmas set
To share with folks I’ve never met.
The pictures matched to each refrain
The closest fit I can attain.

I love to share them in this way
Enhancing words and what they say,
Focusing on what they mean,
Anticipating each new scene.

I pray through rhyme I will not cease
To spread God’s love, and joy, and peace.

It doesn’t come easy that view from the top,
Sometimes a big obstacle forces a stop.
I have to take time for a rest, a delay,
Replenish my soul while God shows me the way.

Sometimes on the journey the path is not straight.
Are the twists and the turns there to teach me to wait?
When I take time to read, pause to study and learn,
It’s then I can listen, God helps me discern.

The journey’s not easy, it’s rocky and rough,
The Lord gives me strength when the going gets tough.
He’s leading me upward, a climb towards the top.
I may pause to rest but my journey won’t stop.

One day I will see that magnificent view,
Bask in God’s glory, see fully each hue.

Lord help me not lower my standards today,
May I follow Your footsteps as You lead the way.
If I slowly give way to the pressures of sin,
If my hearing grows dull to Your Spirit within,

And I find myself living my life on my own,
I shouldn’t be shocked by the weeds that have grown.
If I earnestly seek You and don’t turn away,
If I reach out for help You will hear as I pray.

If I confess You are quick to forgive.
You paid the price so today I may live.
I am warmed by the glow of Your mercy and grace,
Wrapped in Your love by Your Spirit’s embrace.

Your Word provides wisdom, discernment, and sight.
Lord help me each day to be drawn toward the light.
