Donkey Tale

This simple tale is told by a donkey, teased mercilessly for his one floppy ear, who leaves to find solace in a field. The donkey, loaded down with shame, carrying invisible burdens, meets a man mending a fence who helps him see that the burdens he carries are not his to bear. The donkey, overcome with joy, gives his new friend a ride up a dusty old road and discovers he has a very special role.

CHILDREN’S PICTURE BOOKS

The Young Artist: An Unpicture Book

It is with great pleasure that I bring to you the first few of what I hope will be many picture books. The concept for this book was inspired by a young 4th grade artist who loved to draw. I spent time with her, and her mom, and I was quite impressed as they shared her work beginning in early childhood. She has gone on to win some national competitions. Her work inspired me to write this lyrical story. Instead of publishing it as a picture book, I decided to introduce a concept I call an Unpicture Book. This book introduces what I hope to be a series of books under the series title A Young Artist. The book is much like a picture book, but without the illustrations. Consider it an advanced coloring book, but without any drawings, which allows aspiring artists to draw and/or paint illustrations. The goal of the concept is to inspire art expression. The reader (artist) comes up with illustrations to match the text. The concept applies to anyone from pre-school through adult who loves to draw and paint. The techniques, tools, and sophistication of the illustrations will change depending on skill level, but the inspiration to illustrate a picture book and make it their own should appeal to any age group.I’d love to get your thoughts on the concept.

Collections of Rhyme is a series of books of selected rhymes with a shared theme reflected by the title. These lyrical poems have been put into a small greeting card sized book to be enjoyed and to be shared as a gift. There is space in the front of each book to write your own words to the one receiving the collection of poems. I pray they are a blessing to others.

Daily Reflections Series

My morning routine of sipping coffee, Lucy our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel in my lap, reading Bible verses, and writing in rhyme before the sun comes up brings me comfort as I start my day. That routine has also resulted in at lot of poems, and the poems have become a two book series, Daily Reflections, with 365 unique poems in each book, 730 in total. I don’t recommend them as a substitute for time in God’s word, but rather an addition to daily quiet time. God willing, I pray the Lord continues to bless me with rhyme that I share from the heart. I pray they’re a blessing to many. Blessings, John
