A Candle

We’re made to be candles, we’re made to spread light.
Sometimes it is painful, the wax needs to burn,
But the glow of a candle, a beautiful sight,
Sheds light in the darkness around every turn.

What good is a candle that’s never been lit?
Perhaps it’s ornate and has beauty and form.
But should it be placed on a shelf to just sit,
Not even shed light when it’s dark in a storm?

I know every candle, no matter how small,
Can push back the darkness if given the chance.
I pray that your candle will answer the call.
Let God light your candle and see the flame dance.

As you take time to listen, to pause, and to pray,
May your light shine for others to show them the way.
