As we celebrate freedom, the stripes and the stars,
Remember our history, we’ve made it so far.
Remember the country and people we are.
Our country’s much more than we see on the news.
I’m weary of rhetoric, constant debate,
Those stirring up trouble and peddling hate.
It’s time for a change and I pray we don’t wait,
That we all come together, respectfully choose,
Find value in differences, seek compromise.
I pray we find statesmen who’ll once more arise,
Speak only truth and not tolerate lies.
It’s not just elections to win or to lose.
It’s not about buttons and slogans and hats,
It’s not lining pockets with bills full of fat,
Rather wisdom and judgment, not straining at gnats.
Find those whose integrity’s not just a ruse.
Let’s pray for our country, not slumber or snooze,
Pray for God’s blessing, pray He’ll not refuse.
