Heartbeat

May 16, 2021

You place your hand upon your chest.
You feel each beat, between each rest.

The rhythm of a rhyme can match,
Align the words, each beat to catch.

Perhaps that’s why the heart’s attuned
To melodies of songs we croon.

They mirror how the heart can feel.
They empathize and help us heal.

They touch the rhythm of our soul.
They fit inside and fill a hole.

So many tunes can find a way
Inside our heart. Test what they say.

A clever line, a melody
May blind our eyes, not help us see.

I pray you find words to impart
To touch a soul and heal a heart.
