If I measure my life to evaluate worth,
What’s counted as value when I leave this earth?
When things come to mind like one’s money or gold,
The rich and the poor will both die when they’re old.
In heaven the gold is just pavement for roads.
The stuff I accumulate quickly erodes.
In a race they would measure how fast I could run.
Is my pace what determines my worth when life’s done?
Or is it the distance, how long I can last,
The number of years that are now in my past?
It’s not about trying, how hard or how much,
But rather the people and lives I can touch.
Investments in others and sharing God’s love
Is what builds up the treasure in heaven above.
I pray that the words that I’m sharing each day
Can touch other people and help in some way.
